Since 2006, the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival has brought authors and readers together in downtown Burnsville to celebrate literature, storytelling, and the literary arts of the Southern Appalachians. The festival began with a small group of local writers, artists, and community members who wanted to create a place where people could come together to talk about books, writing, and ideas.

Today, the festival draws hundreds of visitors and features authors, readings, discussions, writing workshops, keynote events, youth programs, and opportunities to meet writers face-to-face. At its heart, CMLF is about building community through stories, bringing writers and readers together in the intimate setting of downtown Burnsville.
