Musical Seminar 2pm-3pm
Also on June 30th, David Holt and Roy Andrade will hold a musical seminar that explores the traditional musician as historian, 2-3pm. Four-time Grammy Award winner David Holt is well-known to local, regional and national audiences as a musician, storyteller, historian, television host and entertainer dedicated to performing and preserving traditional American music and stories. Andrade is an East Tennessee State University professor and musician best known for his work with the string band Reeltime Travelers. The seminar will challenge the audience to reconsider how Appalachian music is preserved through generations and how music shapes our collective identity. Sponsored in part by the North Carolina Humanities Council, the seminar is free and open to the public.
RiddleFest is produced annually by Traditional Voices Group (TVG), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the music and stories of the Toe River Valley in the southern Appalachian Mountains. TVG also promotes the contributions made by native son Lesley Riddle to the development of country music in its early days. RiddleFest is a way to learn about Riddle and celebrate his life and music.
